Advantages: Slick performance, a well built little machine
Disadvantages: A bit on the heavy side and the touchpad can be tricky to master
I've had my NC-10 for about 3 months now and find it excellent as a second general home computer for web surfing and email. I did some research on the internet and looked at some netbooks in my local PC World before deciding on the Samsung and can't really complain so far.
I decided to buy a refurbished model from Argos via Ebay but although it wasn't brand new it arrived so well packed, all the original case stickers etc, I was hard pushed to tell the difference. I saved myself fifty quid against buying one new, and it's got a 12 month guarantee, so if anyone reading this is looking to buy one I'd say give a refurbished model serious consideration.
The 10 inch screen is bright and sharp, and colours are fine. I've even downloaded programmes from the BBC iPlayer on the NC-10 and then hooked up the NC-10 to our 32 inch LCD TV (also a Samsung by coincidence) via a VGA cable, and the playback on the TV has been pretty good.
The long battery life (typically 5-6 hours between charges) is great, and if you set the machine to hibernate rather than go into standby when you finish a session this helps conserve the battery power even more.
However this does mean that the battery is larger than on some other netbooks and at over 1kg the NC-10 is heavier than some. A colleague at work has an Acer netbook and that is a lot lighter to hold, although the battery only lasts a couple of hours. So if you are going to use your netbook on the move a lot, that may be something to bear in mind.
All in all then, the NC-10 has been a fine little machine so far. There a a few niggles - the touchpad takes some getting used to, and the scrolling feature can be a bit temperamental. Also, as a previous reviewer has noted, the performance from the speakers is no better than adequate. But performance is very slick and speedy. And it looks very smart in white!
Summary: Bravo Samsung!
