Advantages: small portable and pretty
Disadvantages: maybe not powerfl enough for some
When my old dinosaur of a desk top computer finally gave up the ghost I was secretly pleased as it meant that I could treat myself to a nice new shiny laptop.
Having a browse round the shops nothing really caught my eye and they all looked a bit intimidating to be honest. Computers have never really been my thing and all I really use them for is the internet, facebook, photos and music so I wasn't sure that I really needed 4gb RAM and a 360GB Hard drive. That's when I really starting looking into buying a netbook instead. The idea of being able to sit on the couch and have it on my knee really appealed to me.
I finally decided on the Samsung Nc10 in pink after reading countless reviews as most people seemed positive about it and the colour looked gorgeous. I think i paid around £250 for it which I didn't think was too bad a price to pay.
When it arrived and I unboxed it I was absolutely thrilled to bits with how it looked, the pictures really didn't do it justice. It is a softer metallic pink instead of some of the hot pink ones I had seen. Much more my colour.
It is really small and light and has a ten inch screen so is perfect for those who are looking for mobility.
I had to attach the battery to the laptop then set it up by configuring the setting which was simple as the NC10 guided me through the whole process.
I had got wireless internet installed especially for my new purchase and the NC10 found my connection and connected with no problems so I was now all set up. It was quite a thrill for me to be able to sit in any room of the house and access the internet.
I had read a lot about needing to upgrade the memory to 2gb but I find the 1gb is more than adequate for my needs and it actually performs better than my old desk top. Web are displayed really nicely and fit well on the 10 screen.
I have now even started to download some movies to watch in bed and these also look great on the screen, really crisp and clear.
I have downloaded Microsoft office for work and it runs perfect and the only thing that I seem to have a problem with is iplayer. When I try to play a video with it, it starts and stops so I don't think there is enough juice in the NC10 for it.
Youtube works much better but there does seem to be a noticeable lag and sometimes the videos take absolutely ages to load.
I thought I might have had trouble with trying to type on the keyboard but I really haven't noticed much of a difference and the keyboard is nearly full size anyway. The only difference is that there are no number keys on the right hand side and a few of the buttons are slightly placed differently.
The track pad is another matter though and can be really annoying and unresponsive at times so I really recommend buying an external mouse.
The battery life is fantastic and can last a good 5 or so hours on full performance before needing a recharge.
The NC10 runs windows XP which took a little bit of getting used to but i love it now and it is so much more user friendly and less complicated than other editions.
Another thing the NC10 has is that it is supposed to remain bacteria free as Samsung have added nano technology whatever that is so it remains free of germs. This is probably a good thing as the keyboard does seem to get dirty very easily.
For me and my needs I have been very happy with my NC10 but I think for anyone wanting to do more than just surf the web and use some media applications then it will probably not be powerful enough and they will need to invest in a proper laptop.
Summary: A lovely little netbook
