Samsung NC10 - A great little laptop

Advantages: Light, small, easy to use and great for web browsing.
Disadvantages: Doesn't have a CD Drive, some people find the keyboard to small.
My girlfriend and I bought the Samsung NC10 about 2 and a half years ago and in that time we have used it nearly every day. We use it in the house for browsing the internet, listing ebay items etc and we take it on holiday wherever we go.
The small size and light weight of this laptop mean it is ideal for taking away with you. Popping this in your luggage won't add to your baggage allowance in any significant way and you can even keep it in a small bag and carry it around with you during the day whilst you are away. Personally, I love having access to the internet when on holiday so I can find out all the interesting things to do where you are.
The screen is not the biggest but it is pretty sharp and if the main reason you are buying it is to surf the web, then it's more than adequate. I wouldn't suggest using it for watching films though as while I find it ok, my girlfriend tends to get sore eyes if she watches anything on it for too long.
The startup time is pretty quick, especially from hibernation and the speed of the machine in general doesn't seem to have degraded over the time we have had it. Due to the size of the Samsung NC10, the keyboard is also pretty small. Whilst this may be a bit off-putting to some people, I have had no issues with it and really find it quite easy to use even though I have pretty big hands.
Again with the battery life, the size of the NC10 is deceiving. I have found that the battery lasts for a good 6-7 hours without needing a charge, admittedly with the screen dimming towards the end to save power. The PSU is fittingly small and compact so it is no hassle to take it with you if you are going to using the machine a lot. This is just another thing that makes it the first item in my suitcase.
The operating system our NC10 came with was Windows XP and we took an optional upgrade to increase the RAM from 1GB to 2GB. I think it was worth upgrading here as the performance has been excellent but then I don't really know what it would have been like with just 1GB so it may not make a massive difference. It does only have on slot for memory so you can't add to your existing RAM, you have to replace it with a bigger module.
The only thing that I don't like is that it doesn't have a CD drive but this is only a minor gripe if, like me, you have another computer for that type of thing.
I have had no major problems with the machine but have heard of 2 common issues that may occur with this laptop. Apparently, if the power cable is in the machine and it takes a knock, then it can snap inside the machine. This is pretty difficult to fix and isn't covered by Samsung's warranty. Also, if the screen is closed too hard, then it has a tendency to crack in a certain place. This is also not covered by the warranty as both these problems are considered misuse. As I said, it hasn't happened to me but I thought it handy to be aware of. Basically, treat it like you should treat any piece of electrical equipment, with care.
So, if you are looking for a computer to play the latest games on or to do some work for your graphic design business, then this probably isn't the machine for you. If, on the other hand, you want a small, easy to use laptop for web browsing and e-mailing, this would be a great buy.
Summary: A great laptop for surfing the web and light enough to take everywhere.
