The Compaq NC4621 Token Ring NIC features remote wake-up capability for more efficient server upgrading and serviceability. Network managers can use the Wake on LAN feature on the NC4621 to remotely power up PC systems for maintenance during off hours. Software upgrades, virus scans, and hardware audits can be performed at night without interrupting employees, saving businesses time and money!
The NC4621 features a robust plug and play capability for conflict-free auto configuration. With SmartStart support, NIC installation is integrated into the setup of the operating system and machine for easy installation on Compaq servers. PCI Hot Plug support enables NICs to be replaced or added without having to power off the server, thus enabling easy maintenance. The NC4621 provides SNMP MIB support and remote monitoring capability through Compaq Network Management Software (CNMS). Businesses that need network speeds higher than 16 Mbps can use the NC4621's Dedicated Token Ring (DTR) support to get full-duplex speeds of up to 32 Mbps. To take advantage of DTR, a system must be connected to a Token Ring switch that supports DTR. Most NICs that support Wake on LAN require an extra wire to connect the NIC to the system's motherboard. The NC4621 can support WOL signals through its PCI 2.2 bus interface without an extra WOL wire, but works with a WOL wire for legacy systems that require it. The Compaq NC4621 drivers are backward compatible with Compaq's previous PCI Token Ring NICs. Systems engineers do not have to be familiar with multiple sets of drivers to work with the NC4621. Protecting your investments, giving you networking products that grow as your needs do, providing you tools that make your network easy to manage, and being that one call you make for all of your computing and networking needs - this is Compaq today.
