HP Proliant DL380 G5 Storage Server Base Model ... people, I have a rack of 5 of these DL 380 G5 servers that I maintain in my day job, the G5 is very stable and performance is very good also, the only problem that I have had latley is the frequent power supply failure, HP Tech support have confirmed that there is a known fault on the earky release of the G5 power supplies and they are working on sorting that out, very quiet compared to the IBM range and there is plenty of room for expansion, the G5 has 3 ethernet ports on board as standard and SNMP management RJ45 socket as standard too. Netgear SC101 Storage Central ... just does NOT work. Don t touch this product, look on Ebay and see how many are for sale. One thing they don t mention in the adverts is that this device uses its own filing system. If the device fails you cannot take the drives out and pop them into you PC - your PC just would not recognise them. Unless you have a spare device, if you value your data, you would have to buy another - in other words - YOU RE HOOKED !!! It is not compatible with some firewalls such as Zone Alarm. I wasted two weekends trying to get this device working. It installed okay, and it managed to update its firmware and software.I then managed to copy 129 GB to the device,which it did ever so s... Iomega NAS 400m/1TB ... s a nice looking box; however the Iomega service rates at 0/10. I have purchased my Iomega NAS 400m second hand which voids the warranty. The box got a bit of damage during shipping and as a result the power button in the front broke off (it appears to be a common problem for these servers - I ve seen two other ones with a similar problem). I have contacted the Iomega technical support in order to purchase a new power button, but it turns out I cannot buy from them because my warranty is void. So now I have an Iomega paper weight.
