Allied Telesyn Centrecom 480 ... provide network managers with additional Attachment Unit Interface (AUI) ports from a single port transceiver that is currently installed on the Ethernet coaxial cable. These multiport fanouts are transparent to the installed user hardware, thereby permitting support of the IEEE 802.3 standard, as well as being compatible with Ethernet Version 1.0 and 2.0. The AT-280 expands existing transceiver installations to two AUI ports while the AT-480 supports four AUI ports. Both fanout units can be installed with any existing standards-based transceiver used in Thicknet (10Base-5), Thinnet (10Base-2), fiber optic (FOIRL) and twisted pair (10Base-T) installations. The CentreCOM Multiport Fanouts are compact and mount directly to the existing AUI of the transceiver. The compact design eliminates the need for an AUI drop cable between the fanout unit and the transceiver.

These fanouts also feature low power consumption, which enables self-powering from the DTE. The sturdy, yet lightweight, metal construction ensures long-term, reliable operation in both commercial and industrial environments while requiring no special mounting hardware. The CentreCOM Multiport Fanouts require no user setup, as the characteristics of the AUI are established by the attached transceiver. Features, such as the presence of heartbeat, remain unaltered by the fanout units and pass directly through to the attached DTEs. In this way, the network manager can use the fanouts in either IEEE 802.3 or Ethernet environments without concern for configuration options. The CentreCOM Multiport Fanouts feature four LEDs which simplify installation and assist in fault isolation. Each unit is equipped with LEDs for "Power, " packet "Transmit, " "Receive" and "Collision" detection.
