The HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance is a centralized, appliance-based monitoring and management solution for the SAN. Connected directly to the fabric, it performs management functions outside of the data path and without involving host computers, allowing data transfers to proceed independently between computers and storage devices. The Storage Management Appliance optimizes SAN availability and performance while streamlining manageability by enabling policy-based automation of repetitive storage management tasks. It provides an intuitive, web-based interface and storage management aggregation point enabling the user to organize, configure, visualize, monitor, and provision storage from anywhere, anytime. Included are Command View EVA (previously HSV Element Manager) and HSG Element Manager providing easy-to-use interfaces for centralized storage management across multi-vendor platforms on the SAN. The Storage Management Appliance also supports a variety of value-added storage management applications from HP, as well as popular virus protection and backup products.

HP SANworks Network View is a SAN management application providing a consolidation point for storage network visualization, monitoring and configuration. SAN devices, their Fiber Channel interconnects, and associated status are automatically discovered and displayed in an intuitive topographical network map. SAN device management is made easy by double clicking on a device icon. System performance bottlenecks are identified for proactive resolution and planning. A JAVA applet based design allows remote SAN management from any web browser. Network View is easily installed on the Management Appliance and because it is an appliance application; host operating system integration is not a necessity.
