Designed to fit either low-profile or standard PC architectures, each RocketPort Universal PCI card adds four to eight "native" COM ports to your PC. RocketPort performance capabilities make it ideal for peripheral control applications such as data acquisition, point-of-sale, and factory floor automation.

The RocketPort Universal PCI card is powered by Comtrol's exclusive RocketPort chip, integrating a dedicated 36Mhz processor that enables the card to transmit and receive data four times faster than standard UART technology - up to 460 Kbps full duplex across all ports simultaneously. Along with improved throughput speed and reduced load on the host system CPU, the RocketPort chip also adds an important benefit: increased reliability, with one of the longest mean times between failures of any multiport serial RocketPort uses transmit FIFOs 16 times larger, and receive FIFOs 64 times larger, than multiport cards designed with 16550 UARTs (Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitters). This helps eliminate bottlenecks at the serial controller level while conserving CPU resources.
