The Startech USB 2.0 Data File Transfer Cable at first appears to be a simple USB-USB cable. At around £15-£20 this would seem an expensive piece of kit, but it has a specific job, and an important one at that. The transfer cable is designed for transferring files from Windows XP or Vista computers to the newer Windows 7 format. The software 'Windows Easy Transfer' is required and is included with Windows Vista and 7 and can be downloaded for Windows XP.
The cable is used for transferring files quickly and efficiently without any loss of data or compatibility issues once transferred. I had no trouble accessing my data after the transfer and the fact the cable is USB 2.0 compatible is a big plus point. The cable is, however, also compatible with the old USB 1.1 but only has a transfer rate of 12MBps, unlike the 480MBps claimed for USB 2.0.
The cable comes with an instruction manual, aswell as a CD containing helpful information for completing the data transfer. The cable itself is 7ft long which is generous enough for my needs, and the product looks and feels well constructed.
In the past I have made do with transferring certain data to my new laptop over a period of time. With this handy cable, the process is done in one go and I have had no issues whatsoever with compatibility once the transfer was completed. A worthwhile piece of kit, and one which you will use numerous times due to the constant quick pace of technology these days.
