Being a huge fann of the Splinter Cell series, when I purchased my Nintendo 3DS earlier this year this was one of the first titles I purchased for it. My opinions of the consoles so far have been very low indeed and this game disappointed me on the whole.
I case you have not encountered the series before the Splinter Cell games are based on a range of Tom Clancy novels and involves generally you acting as a spy, creeping round gathering information, killing people and various other tasks. It first game to prominence on the Xbox and has since graced a range of consoles.
This version is a port of the Chaos Theory game which was the third game in the series. But it does not work on handheld. The camera, level design and controls are awful making this a very hard game to play. There is fun there as the game on the xbox was a classic and is clever and fun but it is totally ruined by bad controls and a bad design. This should never have been ported but Ubisoft obviously say the cash cow of a handheld game and went for it.
The thing about this game is with is being a port it clearly is not designed for the handheld. The levels are not designed for handheld and nor is the lighting. Its just way too dark no matter what you do and you will have trouble seeing things which makes the game unfairly hard. This is frustrating and bad design all in one and the perfect example of a rushed port. It ruins the game and anyone playing this series for the first time here will wonder what the fuss was about.
The 3D is used to some degree but it is very subtle and almost unnoticeable before long. Again its an example of the title being rushed, little work has been done on the 3D and rather than be central to the game is just a novel add on. Does not show off the 3DS capabilities at all.
Not worth the price tag at all as your hard work in game will be let down by the bad design. A frustrating and badly designed experience.
