Advantages: Blast and shoot, intense game

Disadvantages: Don't expect a high amount of longevity, feels a bit short?

INTRODUCTION

Battle Tanx on the N64 is an improved version of the same game that appeared on the PS1. This series first spawned to life in arcades and put you in the shoes/ driving seat of a tank!
The game has now evolved into more of a mindless action game with the moto "the more you destroy, the better off you will be".

Sounds like fun?... read on!

GRAPHICS

Visually this game has more polish over its ps1 brethren. Detailed 3D Dimensional environments as well as a ton of detailed tanks to use and destroy.
Full explosions rock the screen, creating the feeling that you're really in battle. Weapons in themselves do look believable.

However while the overall game does look good overall, there are some graphical niggles. E.g. of these are the ocassional sluggish framerate, and at times the tanks feel like they are floating in air.

That said, these are overcome with the sheer amount of action on screen, that you would not notice them easily.

AUDIO

A killer rock soundtrack that compliments the game, keeps you turning up the volume dial, louder and louder. The sound effects themselves feel meaty and satisfying, which include various explosions and gunfire, all of which blend together the way they're supposed to.

CONTROLS and GAMEPLAY

As one would expect, the controls are 'Pick up and Play', bringing it more in line with its arcade roots.

The game itself offers 40 missions and 13 different tanks to keep you busy blasting the intense and ruthless opponents.

However at times, the game does become - blast everything and anything that is in your way.

Added to the mix is a multiplayer which can get intense. It lacks strategy and boils down to, whomever can out manoeuvre and is more trigger happy = wins.

In summary, Battle Tanx is a good game that will keep you busy initially. I have reservations on its long time appeal, but if blast em up type games are your cup of tea, then give this game a spin.

Good 7/10

Summary: A good action, blow em up game
