If, like me, your expectations have been set by the Street fighter or Mortal Kombat series of games, then you will be sadly disappointed by the somewhat limited and tedious gameplay that this game has to offer. Although there is some uniqueness to the game - the use of claymation (stop motion) is a pleasant experience, and the fact that you can move between different fighting arenas mid-fight is refreshing - the game just doesn't have enough playability to hold your attention for more than a few sessions. You'll soon find yourself reaching for a more established fighter to face-off with your friends. Keeping most of the standard format from more popular franchises was a wise decision - 12 playable characters (though some of these need to be unlocked in order to use them), use of combo moves, a variety of combat arenas to name a few. The parody element of the game is it's only real selling point - the game knows it will never be able to compete with more established fighting games, so the developers have chosen to mock them instead, which I have to confess the game does rather well - amusing characters (a fighting version of the kids favourite Frosty The Snowman anyone?), cheesy voiceovers that border between annoying and amusing, and ridiculous 200+ hit combos (a homage to the excellent combos in Killer Instinct).
Overall, enjoy the gimmicks that the game has to offer, but have Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat or Killer Instinct stashed away somewhere near in-case you need to seperate the men from the boys. Worth a play, but I would avoid buying a copy if it's going to cost anymore than a few pounds. Doubtful that you'll see this game appearing at the Evo (retro) tournaments anytime soon!
