I’m a fan of Formula 1 but believe it or not, this was only my second F1 game (the first being World Grand Prix on the Sega Master System II). I saw it advertised for £10 in Electronic Boutique and I figured I’d give it a shot, if I didn’t like it I could always take it back.

Well, here we are months after purchase and I’ve still got it since it is good – very good in fact. This game is amazing. It looks pretty good for a N64 game, with no polygon popups and actually is realistic. Unfortunately the sound is terrible, in mono with a few engine grunts. You get your team manager shouting in your ear but he does get annoying after a while.

All the courses are available and you can choose how many laps you want to do, from just four up to the whole race length. There are various gameplay modes also – from the time trials against no-one to a whole season career!

The handling is superb and just seems perfect. You can fiddle with the wings, tyres and even the gearbox. There are assists for the beginners as well as three difficulty levels.

A great N64 racer that got improved later by F1 World Grand Prix II a year later. Go to your local shop and pick one of them up cheap now.
