Advantages: Amazing playability

Disadvantages: Surpassed by Perfect Dark

While every successful computer or console must have killer game Goldeneye is almost cetainly the game that sold the 64. The fact that this game has the James Bond licence is not really important as it is the brilliant playability in both single and multiplayer modes that make the game what it is. Goldeneye is probably the most important first person shoot-em-up since Doom as it introduces a good story line with missions which made the genre as successful as a one player game as it had been as a multiplayer game.

Since Goldeneye many other games such as Half-Life have borrowed the ideas including the idea of different body zones where enemies can be shot. A shot to the head will spell almost instant death, whereas several shots to the arms or legs would be required.

Goldeneyes graphics now look a little dated and the sequel, Perfect Dark, is probably a superior game but Goldeneye is an all time classic and a game that no N64 owner should be without.
