Advantages: You get to be Bond in a great game & loads more!
Disadvantages: A bit dated, sequel is now out (Perfect Dark)
If you own a console and you’ve never heard of GoldenEye 007 then you should hang your head in shame. Released over two years ago on the Nintendo 64, GoldenEye 007 set a new standard that all future games had to try and equal. Many tried, few succeeded. The game’s single player follows the film plot of its movie namesake. Starting nine years ago leading up the confrontation on the Antenna Cradle, the game excels in every area. There are three levels of difficulty for each of the 20 levels (2 being hidden) meaning that the learning curve is perfect. Add to this the fact that there are 23 cheats to unlock by completing the levels within certain time limits and you have something that approaches perfection. The multiplayer is possibly the best you’ll ever see – it’s hard to describe how good it really is. Choose from 11 levels and dozens of characters to take on up to three of your friends. Play as teams, all versus all or Capture the Flag – the choices are endless. The game is not without a few flaws however. It is quite old and the graphics show this; it looks dated. The AI is also a bit dodgy in areas, especially on the “Agent” difficulty but the gameplay is so good in other areas it’s very easy to forget these minor points. My advice? If you don’t own this game and you have an N64 you should be shot. Get this cheap (Ł20 new) or second hand. If you already have this, then get Perfect Dark, ASAP.
