Advantages: playable, good graphics, enjoyable

Disadvantages: none

The game is amazing, there are loads of cool cut scenes and they have got the gunshot effects and plasma rifle blasts down to a science. The first impressions are ace, there is a space shot at the start of the games first cut scene which is a bit blurry but never the less you are soon reassured by the super character detail and surroundings. The surroundings themselves are very impressive, the first level is a tropical village type planet and I do believe that these are the graphics that spawned the whole Dinosaur Planet idea. The Waterfalls are just as beautiful and even the enemy ants put on a good show even if you are about to spatter their oozing green blood around over 15 levels full of gorgeous landscapes!

This Game is massive. I would stop there because just like the game itself, all the bonuses and pros to the game would take ages to get through. There is a smooth 3rd person view throughout the game with a very impressive 1st person targeting mode. The draw distance is amazing just like the US opinions of Banjo-Tooie the worlds could go on forever! The character control very well, the game mechanics are simple yet detailed and programmed in such a way that you never need for another method or getting around. You can play as 3 characters Juno, Vela and Rufus and if you do well in the game you can add another 20 to that in the superb action-filled multiplayer mode! You can get armor, upgrades, loads of weapons…something that every FPS fan dreams of but you get this and a whole lot more in this 3D Adventure Space Blaster. You get rocket Packs, pods to race in, and loads of other bonuses and gadgets to fiddle with…not forgetting Floyd!

This multiplayer is amazing…you can race pods, have a 4-player death match and target practice. The multiplayer, is almost as big as the game itself, you can have seemingly limitless characters, loads of weapons and levels. The graphical detail is just as good as the 1-player adventure and jus
t like the Main game, there is NO slowing frame rate, NONE!
There is also a multiplayer side to the Main Game! Along your travels as Juno you will come across a segmented robot by the Name of Floyd, geeky name or not, you want to help this guy because he is the key to one of the most innovative multiplayer experiences of all time. After putting this scattered pile of mechanics together Player 2 can take control of Floyd whilst player one blasts away, you can take down enemies in half the time and if you are getting too far in the game to want to stop, no problem, just let your mate hit the start button and the little robot will be firing in no time, Mizar won’t know what hit him!

This game was completely overshadowed by Rare’s 1999 hit Perfect Dark ever since the showing at E3 but as many N64 gamers are going back in time and replaying old classics many of them will stumble across the Rare Master Piece that is Jet Force Gemini. There are bits in every game that many of us would like to improve and JFG is no exception, the character jumps using the C-up button, it seems fairly logical as the A and B buttons are used to switch the weapons. But it can be annoying as the N64 pad isn’t very easy to navigate, especially for some young gamers.

The main storyline in the game is that the Tribals, little fluffy Teddy bear types have been thrown into slavery by Mizar, and being the Good Will ambassador that you are you take immediate action and set off to rescue them. Like Banjo-Kazooie there are lots of characters to interact with, items to collect, but because of the sheer size of JFG they are more spaced out and so don’t expect to run into a character every 5 minutes! There are Keys to collect and even the odd Rare-Classic Mini-game to conquer and over all this game boasts one of the best, if not 100% original storylines, of all time. There are more factors in this game than an A-Levels maths book, and although the game is qu
ite tough and to get anywhere near defeating Mizar you have to get EVERY SINGLE TRIBAL, it will last you until we see a sequel on the Gamecube. It isn’t a game you want to miss out on.
You can do a number of things with the £20 you have just earned. Spend it on your other-half, buy ‘The Lads’ a round or two, or buy this game, I STRONGLY suggest you do the latter. It is one of Rare’s Best, One of Rare’s Finest and one of Rare’s Greatest Achievements through the Nintendo 64 and an experience you don’t want to miss out on! Of Course you don’t HAVE to buy this game, you can sit there with your £20 staring at the phone whilst everyone else snaps up the last copies…getting worried already? I bet you are, but if you have the JFG team on your side you’ll have no reason to be, they are the toughest trio going and nothing will get in their way…but the only way you’ll experience all the action is through Rare’s classic Jet Force Gemini.
