General/Summary: "NBA COURTSIDE 2" is one of the best all-time NBA game that ever hit the Nintendo. With great options and its great computer players the game just has to be real. Forget EA Sports cause this is in the game! Gameplay: One word...fantastic. One of the best gameplays I have ever played in an NBA game on Nintendo. Whats even better is that you have the ablity to create your own player and put it in the game. But thats not all, as your player makes more shots and increases its chance for a playoff spot with his team, the player get better. Like I said, forget EA Sports, cause this is in the game! Graphics: Graphics have greatly improved in this NBA series. The game has got better player faces, and I mean better. Getting down as low as can go. Showing gotee and mustasche, wishing you had one! If you don't think this game gets detailed with graphics you better start noticing those teeth of the players! As realistic can be, you will really have to try to remember that its all a game. Sound: From a every swoosh to every squek by the shoes of the players, the game delivers excellent sound effects. If you want to hear the players say shut up, scream at them, but if you want to hear the coach scream, "Pass it to Michael!" you got to listen. The sound is bound to be as good as it gets.
At the time, this was described as the best Basketball game on the N64. The only other one I’ve tried is the rubbish ‘Hangtime’, but even Courtside didn’t seem up to standard. It maybe the restrictions of a basketball game that cause the problems, but this seemed sluggish and unresponsive. Tackling, also, is too hard as you stand still when you try to grab the ball. Also, Basketball games have never been fair when it comes to aiming. Other than how close you are to the basket, it is almost random whether your shot goes in or not. However, no matter how bad, all sports games seem to have an addictive edge, especially in 2 player mode. Although Basketball games naturally are difficult to make fun for the non-Basketball fan, I’m sure that there will be better efforts than this.
This is actually a very good game. It's not the best sports game on the N64, that's probably the superb Mario Golf, but if you like basketball then you'll love this. It has all the proper teams, and an endorsement from the current golden child of the NBA, Kobe Bryant. It's pretty easy to play, the controls seem intuitive enough, and you can do things like set post plays and so on with use of the L and R buttons. There are better basketball games out now, and this is getting on a bit, but for all the N64-owning basketball fans you couldn't do much better than this, and can probably get this pretty cheap nowadays. Snap it up!
