A great game that could have been greater (Mario Kart 64 (N64))

Advantages: Mario is back with friends, graphics, 4 player action

Disadvantages: Cheating AI, Skill doesn't get you wins anymore

This is a game that many were expecting to be the best, so many argue that it is better than the original.

I'll tell you it isn't. How can it be? The original was perfect. A game that could not really be improved upon.

This one makes the mistake of taking away what make the original so good. Skill... That is it. Skill doesn't win you matches this time around, the AI of other drivers is a joke with them being able to catch you up whatever the lead you had. Often the winner gets decided upon within the last few seconds. You cannot build up a lead like before.

On another note though the levels are nice minus rainbow ride which is criminal. It used to be a fast classic where it took real skill to navigate the corners to get killer times. Now it is just a pain to play.

Other levels though are nice and the graphics over all are good. The game can be fun 4 players because it isn't really take seriously and it can be a lot of fun (especially after a few beverages).

I can't say I really liked it after finding out the AI cheated, but it still deserves a fairly decent score for showing that Nintendo care.

Summary: Mario is back, leading the way in another great racer.
