I used to love playing the Snes version fo this. Then a few years after that they brought out the N64 version. Which was around 1998. It was just as good but a lot better.
As usual there are plenty of characters to pick from. Such as Mario, Princess, Bowser and Wario. They are all characters from various games Mario has been in. For example his own series of games and also the game Wario.
Each character has his or hers own special powers and also a weakness. For example one character may be faster than another but is harder to brake with.
There are plenty of rounds in this game. There are three different cups such as the mushroom cup with each cup haveing a number of different rounds. The variouse rounds include ones such as rainbow road and Bowsers castle. In Rainbow road you race along a rainbow in a different world in the sky and the thing about this course is that it has no sides. So make sure you keep away from the sides.
Apart from raceing against the computer in tournaments you can have head to head with up to three mates. You can also play battle mode mode with up to three mates. In head to head mode the first to win the race is the winner with second and third place also awarded if four players. In battle mode the last one standing is the winner. You can choose any round in these two games. If you dont want to play a tournament by yourself, you can race yourself in time mode. It Simply saves your time when the round is over.
Overall excellent game. You will have loads of fun playing races and battles with this game.
The graphics are excellent with the graphics sticking out like 3D graphics, the tunes are excellent with many tunes and sound effects, gameplay is excellent as you will want to play this game for a long time.
