Advantages: Incredible Customisable Features And Superb Multiplayer
Disadvantages: You'll Wonder Why You Didn't Get This Game Sooner!
Perfect Dark is a first person shooter created by Rare, the developers of the classic shooter GoldenEye 64, and is a superbly well designed, updated and improved version of the aforementioned classic game.
Playing as Agent Johanna Dark you play through a number of innovative levels completing numerous exciting objectives. The levels are incredibly well designed and it is the worlds, buildings and environments that are the real credit of this game. With three difficulty settings, Agent, Special Agent and Perfect Agent (as well as an unlockable setting Perfect Dark) each with their own unique objectives the single player has a great longevity in its gameplay.
Making full use of the N64 Expansion Pak the graphics are impressive, the gameplay is smooth, the AI is well designed and the levels are expansive and free-roaming, so you dont simply move from one objective to the next.
It is however the multiplayer that really makes this game worth having. The shoot-em-up, battle multiplayer style is enhanced by the sheer amount of customisable features; each character can have a customised name, body and head and with the option of adding AI bots into the game you needn't keep to just 4 players. Weapon sets are customisable and there are a large array of weapons to choose from as well as numerous multiplayer only designed levels (including a few taken directly from the classic GoldeneEye 64 multiplayer). The game doesn't limit playing with others to just multiplayer either - you can even play through the single player story levels co-opertaive or combat with a second player.
Perfect Dark is an incredibly well designed game that puts other N64 shooters in the dark, with its vast array of functions, excellent multiplayer and the sheer longevity of the gameplay avaliable. Its a must-have game for any serious first-person shooter fan for the multiplayer alone.
Summary: A Must-Have N64 Game
