Rainbow Six is a very different type of shoot-em-up that involves a lot more teamwork, tactical work and stealth than many other game. I think this makes it a lot more interesting that most games, but to do well in the game u really have to be patient in the planning stages and take it slowly. The game is based on the book by Tom Clancy and basically Rainbow Six is an anti terrorist organisation. In the game you have to venture through a fair amount of levels such as the homes of drug barons and government buildings rescuing hostages and eliminating the terrorists. You have four men to work with and you can put them in teams. You then must plan the action you will take, setting paths and check points for your teams. This makes the game very tactical although next it goes into first peson mode and becomes and almost average shoot-em-up. The game is pretty good overall, the graphics are good but the controls take a bit of getting used to. The 2 player mode is co-operative only. I feel that games of this stealth shoot-em-up genre usually work better in 3rd person, but rainbow six shows that it can be done in other ways. If you are up for a bit of time planning out then it can be a very good game.

This is an excellent real-time first person stealth shooter. it's a long title, but it deserves it! You take control of a crack squad of highly trained SAS officers. You will play through the game, rescuing hostages, taking out terrorists, diffusing bombs and cracking locks! Before you undertake your missions, you must choose who will be used. You can split up to 8 characters into up to four teams. Choose from explosives, sniping, lock picking etc. specialists. Name a captain for each team, who will be responsible for others. Chose the kit that your men will have, from m-16's to pistols, grenades to flashbangs. Chose a uniform suitable for the job ie. camo, street or urban, and the amount of body armour they will have. There are many men you can choose from, different Nationalities, different specialities. You can even see pictures of the men, and a little chart showing how good they are at: Use of weapons, leadership, strength, sniping etc! Choose the right men for each mission, or you wont get far! Then move onto the planning. Perhaps the most important part of the game, create waypoints for you and the computer teams, and plan what will be done and when. Indicate the attack style in each area and tell them where to wait for orders. Now you are ready to go in! The AI is extremely good, with terrorists waiting behind doors, and snipers hiding in bell towers! Isuue orders for when to move on, and take out the bad guys, rescuing the hostages, diffusing bombs and picking locks along the way! There are 12 levels, and different difficulties, ranging from fairly challenging to near impossible! Missions too tough? Grab a friend and play the co-operative setting, helping each other out in the single player missions! This part of the game is great, as it allowsyou and a friend to take different routes, each with their own team! The playability and addictiveness of this game are amaz ingly high. Each mission needs top planning and a skilled player. It will have you hooked straight away, and will take ages to complete. The graphics are excellent the sound effects are realistic. The background music is annoying though. Overall this is a great game, though I would say the PC version is better. Easily an 8/10!

I bought this game expecting a great stealth game, which would provide a good team game. How wrong I was! While the graphics are reasonable, they are jerky, and the horizons are pathetic - just looking like a 2D wallpaper being pasted on a wall! The motion of the other characters walking is reminiscent of Mortisha Addams - sliding along, instead of walking! The computer controlled team-mates must have been trained by the Muppets, since they walk out and you usually lose most of them by the end of the mission, or they mess up the whole mission for you. I decided after a few infuriating attempts to go it alone, and found this allowed me to advance further through the game. The game is far too hard to play, only needing one hit to die! It is, I suppose a more reaslistic game in that sense, it's just a shame all the other features make it look tacky. The heavily guarded areas are impossible to get past, and then there are areas with nothing at all to do, except walk. Some of the weapons in the game are a waste of time, such as the grenades, which alert the enemy to your presence and fail the mission. One saving grace is the mood music is good and fitting the stealth mission scenario. Another is that when my mate from the Navy comes home, we go and get drunk, then we play this into the early hours. This doesn't save a poor game though, and I wouldn't recommend buying this to anyone.
