Super Mario flys into 3-d (Super Mario 64 (N64))

Advantages: vast levels to explore and brilliant control of mario with the analogue Disadvantages: a pity that more of marios pals do not feature and are not playable Super Mario 64 took the huge reputation of the hit super Nintendo 2-d games and took its latest release to the next level with this game. At the time the two main consoles around were the Nintendo 64 and the Playstation, this latest offering was the first game in which Mario was playable in full 3-d, complete with huge fully interactive levels which simply blew my mind after playing it for the first time. Although I appreciate that time has moved on, and that Nintendo have been able to reproduce the then stunning graphics of the 64 onto a handheld (DS), at the time the graphics boasted by Super Mario 64 were truly a breakthrough and a real transition from the snes. The gameplay was also smooth and great fun to play. The game itself also was good value for money as there are 150 stars in total to collect which means the game has quite a good lifespan. The game is also quite challenging in difficulty for all ages and is suitable for all ages as well. I think this was a really good first outing for Mario in 3-d and I firmly believe that the successful transition from 2-d to 3-d of Super Mario 64 has laid the foundation for all the future Mario games such as Mario Sunshine on the GameCube, Super Mario Planet on the wii and any future Mario releases to come. Summary: A brilliant transition of mario form 2-d to 3-d |
