Advantages: Solid multiplayer action, see Nintendo's major mascots in the same game , easy to learn, hard to master

Disadvantages: Quite possibly the worst 1-player mode I've ever experienced, I felt no classic Nintendo memories coming back whatsoever, lack of fighting game fundamentals

Ah, Super Smash Brothers. Quite possibly one of the most overrated games I've ever come across. Sure it was fun for a couple days, but when you start owning every single challenge the game has it gets old. Behind all that, no depth for the hardcore gamer. Gamers all over the world were madly in love with this game, but fail to realize how much this game could have been improved. And now I hear people saying "I hate fighting games, but I like SSB"? You people! SSB is not a fighting game! Check out Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter if you want a real fighter.

If some no-name developer made a game like this, exactly the same gameplay, but with different characters, I guarantee to you this game would not have 25% the success it has had. Look at Sega's Powerstone. In every sense of the word, the same thing as SSB but maybe 3 times better. Yet, how has SSB oversold it by oh I don't know, 20 million copies? THERE ARE SOME VERY BIASED NINTEDO FANBOYS OUT THERE. As much as I love Nintendo, I can say this game is NOT a masterpiece, it is NOT a game worth over 50 hours of gameplay, and it certainly does NOT do Nintendo's mascots any justice. Now I'm not saying this is a bad game, but it certainly isn't good either. It just could have been so much better.

Now for the clueless on the game. Basically hell freezes over and Nintendo feels the need to make a game with all their mascots in battle with each other because some hand brought them to life. Okay....anyway, the game features 12 of Nintendo's biggest characters. Each of them is equipped with three of their special moves and all of their basic moves, this game is very easy to pick up and easier to learn that other fighting games because every character has the same button combination for special attacks. How you use them is a different story. It's a pretty freely loosed action/fighting game where you jump around the stage attacking your opp
onents, grabbing items, getting sucked into a tornado or whatnot. The multiplayer mode is appealing because you can show off your skills with other friends in a battle. The fights are also very untraditional to fighting games because you don't lose life, you basically gain damage and then when you are high on damaage opponents can knock you out of the stage. Not a bad idea I admit.

What made me buy this game? The thing that made every Nintendo fan buy it, seeing Mario, Link, Kirby, and the whole family in the same game. Even if I knew this game was going to be just average, I still would have gotten it.

Graphics: Fair. However, while Nintendo was putting out gorgeous games like Zelda: Majora's Mask it's a bit dissapointing, even if they were going for the 2-D look. Ah well.

Gameplay: Ever since this game came out I've been brainstorming ideas to make this game better. Honestly, I think my ideas are better than whatever Nintendo can come up with. SSB Melee on the Gamecube isn't any better. While the idea of knocking an enemy out of the stage with high health is appealing, I feel the brawls lacked something. The 1 player mode is a disgrace. I was expecting a nostalgic trip through the worlds of Nintendo, what I got was the most unoriginal trash I've ever experienced in a 1 player mode. Believe it or not, I played the Break the Targets mini-game much more than the main mode.

Music: This and the multiplayer mode are what save the game. It's great hearing classic Nintendo tunes, and Earthbound music remastered! Sweet stuff. I would be writing a complaint letter to Nintendo if they made up some new thoughtless music instead of the classics.

Nintendo ought to hire me to help make the next SSB. Don't they realize that most everybody bought this game to see their favorite characters, and relive classic Nintendo memories? Does this game do that? I've imagined an adventure mode where classic lo
cales such as the Mushroom Kingdom were restored in full 3-D, where you are just blown away by such nostalgia that makes you want to break out your NES and Super NES again. That's what I envisioned in this game when I bought it, not some mindless un-though out action game. Are you writing all this down Nintendo?
