“ An action game developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Acclaim Entertainment. You can fight free-for-all battles, team battles, tag battles (where one player turns into a monkey and must change himself back at a switching station before he gets „
The first 2 Turok games for N64 were nothing really special, a couple of titles in a long list of the consoles average first person shooters, but Turok Rage Wars has a twist. This places the emphasis on the multiplayer game present in the previous titles, and works to good effect, creating lots of small levels with specific objectives. These range from normal combat (kill your enemies as much as you can), to boss levels (kill the boss as much as you can), to a sort of capture the flag, where you must find the flag and bring it back to your designated base without getting killed, to the fantastically original monkey tag. In this mode one player is designated as the monkey, in fact becoming either a lizard or chicken, and must reach the special point where they will return to normal form while someone else becomes the monkey, while everyone else trys to kill the monkey, whoever does so most times at the end winning. Probably the best thing about Rage Wars, though, is the weaponary. After a while it becomes a little stale, but you can never really tire of seeing an enemy inflated till they burst, or left insanely big, just short of bursting, and waddling through the level. Alongside the inflater are the freeze gun, cerebral bore (a classic), chest burster, and much more, and while it all sounds like it should be quite sick, the game is in fact insanely funny. A real must have for both multiplayer and solo action.
Turok Rage wars! You can pick it up for under a tenner and is a deathmatch Turok game. Also the gore has been reduced quite astoundingly from holes in body and spasming as seen in previous incarnations of the Turok series to a mere flop of blood. So straight away you are put off but what if I say this is probably the best Turok EVER! Why? Well it has left the usual system and now includes a deathmatch style game where you battle against computer controlled opponents in cleverly designed arenas. The control system from the first 2 that seemed a little dodgy has been well and truly sorted out and moves smoothly. The game is highly addictive and unlike Turok 1 and 2 completing a section can take 5 minutes. But then again it is hard in places and you won’t want to rest until you have completed every level as every character and gain every medal. So the game is defiantly not short but isn’t that hard or frustrating either making this a highly enjoyable experience. The weapons are more innovative than any other Turok game, WE see a return to the cerebral bore but we also get the Inflator, which inflates them till they pop! Or the Emaciator that does the opposite and makes them thin! This new innovative weaponry would be good if the gore in the game hadn’t been heavily turned down, as Inflation could be very messy rather than a simple bigger, bigger, flop. Pathetic really. But now we move on to the main bit the multiplayer, you have a huge array of characters and with many options such as capture the flag it is a really fun experience! The story has you challenge to get the Light burden off the first Turok! All in all it is the gameplay and for under Ten pounds this is a must get!
This is the third installment of the highly acclaimed turok series from acclaim! You play a turok, the dinosaur hunter, but this time you don't play 'missions' as such. The whole game is set in a multiplayer environment, each mission being more like a deathmatch. You must work your way along the paths for each character, and earn goodies and weapons along the way. There are 4 bosses on each characters path, but each character has different weapons, so this makes it interesting. Some are plain deathmatches, others team deathmatches, capture the flag and 'animal tag'. In animal tag mode, one of the players is a monkey. The other [layers have to kill the monkey before it reaches a transform point, then another player becomes the monkey. The first to ? monkey kills wins! There are earnable cheats on this game, but also type-in ones, for when it gets too tough. This game also has an up to 4 player multiplayer mode, where you can play any of the scenarios from the single player, in a wide range of arenas, with lots of characters to chose from, and you chose your own weapons! Moving onto the weapons, they come in 4 groups: bullet, energy, explosives etc. and each group has a load of guns in it. Energy ammo will only work in energy guns, so make sure you've got the right ammunition! There is the emaciator, draining peoples life force, rocket launcher, crossbow, shotgun, freeze gun, minigun and napalm gun, along with many more. The graphics are excellent, especially with an expansion pack, but the sounds are very annoying. Enemies 'grunt' when shot! It is very playable, with a large replay value, mainly as you may have missed a lot of bonuses, needed to open time trial and frag modes. It will not really get you addicted, though you will still enjoy playing it. a must for any shoot-em-up, Turok or gore fan!!!
