Wave Race 64 was one of the first games released for the N64, and it is still one of my favourite racing games. You race against three competitors using jet skis, over eight tracks. Although there are only three competitors, the races can be tense as on the higher levels it really does feel as though you are racing against intelligent opponents. If you do get bored playing against the computer, there is a split screen two player mode.
The fact that you are racing on water rather than land, does make a difference, due to the superb way in which the water environment has been designed. Whether on a lake or at sea, the sensation of being on water feels real ,and due to the constantly varying wave conditions each lap of a track is slightly different.
The jet ski is very easy to control using the analogue stick, you always feel in complete control of the jet ski.
It may be old but I still feel that this is a great racing game.
