Advantages: Superb physics, great water effects

Disadvantages: Not very many game modes by today's standards

This game is over four years old and doesn't have any cars in it but I'd still rate it as one of the best racing games available on a home console.

In the same vein as the excellent '1080º Snowboarding' and the forthcoming (but, I have heard, also excellent) 'Excitebike 64', 'Wave Race 64' is based very much around its physics system. I cannot fault the realism of this game's handling and, although I have never been on a Jet Ski, I can't imagine it would be much different to playing this game (apart from the obvious differences of course). The water effects too, are excellent and, even in the newest of Dreamcast games they haven't been surpassed on a console.

Obviously, for a game of its age, 'Wave Race 64''s graphics (apart from the water) look a bit dated and the game options are limited but for all you PlayStation fans who are under the misguided impression that 'Gran Turismo 2' is the pinnacle of racing, you have to try this. 'Wave Race 64' is a classic example of substance over style.
