Advantages: Unique, fun

Disadvantages: Limited long term appeal

An utterly unique racer, the news that a sequel to the genre-breaking Wave Race is being developed for the Gamecube is wonderful. I recall playing this when I first owned an N64, and being taken aback by the unique feel of the racer, and the relatively (in a world full of driving games) unusual handling of the jet skis.

The graphics are lovely, and the rider animations convicing. The sound is as decent as you'd expect, nothing groundbreaking. It's the uniqueness that really charms, however, and for that Wave Racer isn't to be beaten. A little low on long-term appeal, Wave racer is nonetheless an experience not to be missed.
