Advantages: Refer to title, cost effective, good additional features

Disadvantages: Too much Shakespeare for even the die hard fan

The Ninetendo DS has already shown that it is not just a games console, but can also be used as a cooking guide with various cooking games, a mental training console with games such as brain and sight training and a phsical fitness device. With the 100 classic book collection, the Nintendo DS has shown it can also prove to be a portable library.

This 'game' features well known books from many respected authors, including William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and Lewis Caroll. With 100 books to read, and the game retailed at £19.99. This works out at just under 20p a book, a bargain if you consider that for each of these books individually you are looking at paying around £4.99 or so for each book. That equates to £499 for the entire collection of books if they were all avaliable at that price. It's pretty clear which option is the more financially suitable.

For those who like to read on the go or wherever they are like on holiday, then this game from nintendo is well worth buying for yourself. The font is clear and easy to read, and the software allows you to be able to scroll through each book easily so that the flow of reading is not interupted. One slight issue with this though is that like many other DS games you have to read by turning the DS on its side, which can be harder to hold than when held normally, and the longer words in the narrow screen are broken down, making the sentences much harder to read.

I would have to admit though, the only problem I find with this product is that some of the books there I have absolutly no interest in or I would only read them if I was bored and and nothing to do. For those of you who do not like the books/plays by William Shakespeare, you are losing out on 23 books of the 100 avaliable. Maybe it would have been more suitable to offer a choice of books to download from the nintendo website that could be synced to the DS. However, many people do not have access to this feature yet as additional software must be purchased.

Overall, if you are the kind of person who enjoys to read, particullary on holiday so that you don't have to take hundreds of books yourself, it is certainly worth buying.

Summary: A very neat 'game' for the multifunctional nintendo DS
