Advantages: fun singleplayer and multiplayer,

Disadvantages: bit too much like other strategy games.

Age of empires age of kings DS has you take control of one of 5 armies in a square turn based strategy world, the armies in question are: the franks, the Britons, mongols, Saracens and Japanese, each of the armies have a hero or leader like unit, like Saladin for the Saracens and Joan of arc for the franks, these hero units have better stats than other units of the same type and can use special powers to boost your economy and units, other than the art of the buildings and units most of the base units are the same

The single player campaigns has you play the stories of the heroes, saving France whit Joan of arc or helping Richard lionheart or Saladin to power, this is a lot like a skirmish game except there are additional objectives.

The units work in a rock paper scissors way while the scissor still damages the rock the rock does more damage, attack power also depends on the HP/ power remaining there are also defense and attack bonuses factored in which relate to terrain and upgrades, ranged units return fire when fired on by other ranged, mastering the terrain is important in this game as mountains provide greater Line of sight and add range to ranged units, Forrest and swamps detract range and horses can not enter swamps.

By winning games and completing objectives you gain points which you can use to unlock special units and new maps, there are a few maps that have two balanced armies fight each other without there being any building which are by far my favourite.

The multi-player can either be done hot seat or if both players have a DS by wireless connection,you can play together and against in both, though it is a bit harder to play fair in hot seat, I recommend playing against each other on a balanced army engagement map as it is faster.

A good strategy game for the DS but a bit like the other DS strategy games.


The graphics are decent for a DS game

Summary: if you want a strategy game for your DS this is a decent buy.
