Big Brain Academy (DS)
Disadvantages: not as many challenges as I expected.
As far as I know, there are probably about three nintendo DS games that work as far as 'training your brain' is concerned. This is the one which you could say, is the most fun.
These are five main sections, these are memorise, think, analyse, compute and identify. In each of these sections there are three different games. at three different difficulty levels, getting more difficult as it goes on.
Before you get to the training part of the game, there is a menu that allows you to either do the training, do the 'exam' or connect with another DS to play the game with them to try and beat their scores. In the exam part, you will be given one game out of the five main sections, and you will have to try and get as high a score as possible. The highest 'grade' you can get for a whole exam is A+ and the lowest is E, so it covers pretty much every ability.
In each game, you have to aim to get either a bronxe, silver or gold medal. If you score even more points, than what a gold medal, weould earn you, you can also get a premium medal, which is alot more difficult to achieve. To get these premium medals you need to do alot of practise every day.
The design of the box is slightly different to the one show,. as it is now an orangey, peachey kind of colour, but it still contains some of the characters that are shown on the cover.
Unlike other brain training games, this one incorperates having fun, within the training, like in one of the games you have to match up some lines to complete a whole picture, a bit like a dot to dot puzzle. It has a variety of different music that makes the training not so serious, but it does not at all hinder what ever chakllenge you are doing, although if you are playing the game in a crowded room, I would wear earphones, as it might get ever so slightly annoying after a little while.
I bought theis game for £19.99, at WHSmiths, but I am sure that if you got this item form amazon it would be around £11-£12.
Overall, I think this game is excelent value for money, as it keeps you entertained for hours, and it also improves you brain capacity, which is an added bonus. You can play with family members or friends, together and you can relax and unwind after a hard days work!
