... you and the shoulder buttons are used as triggers. I approve of this control scheme, and I think that with a bit of practice it feels good and offers a nice level of control. No, it's nowhere near as good as mouse/keyboard or joypad controls, but it's surprisingly close behind. One complaint here though - I would have liked the sensitivity to be higher on the stylus control. If you're being attacked from behind, you can't help but feel like an idiot as you drag the stylus across the screen multiple times just ...more

Crowned Review Brothers in Arms (DS): Fire and Forget? (2024 words)

I'll freely and openly state that I'm not much a fan of war games. Sure, I'll play a title like Fire Emblem, which is completely fantastical, or Advance Wars, which stresses the strategy of war while not actually featuring a real war. But as soon as we get into World War II games, I start to shy away. It's hard to have fun playing a game about an event that killed millions of innocent young men -- for me, anyway. Yet, when Brothers in Arms DS was released, I confess I was a bit intrigued. It received overall good reviews, and I longed for a quality shooter on the DS. So, I picked it up. I was ashamed, and I still am. And that shame is fueled even more by the fact that ...  Read the complete review

Brothers in Arms on the DS is a first person shooter set in the Second World War. Yawn... yes, ok ok, there ARE far too many WWII first person shooter games out there, but wait, this one is on the DS! So it must be worth a look right? FPS games on the DS are generally a bit of a mixed bag. I quite enjoyed Call of Duty, and Metroid is fun when playing against other people, but overall I feel that developers are still finding their feet in terms of bringing the high action 3D environment to the handheld market. The obstacles being control, gameplay and graphics. The controls in Brothers in Arms are very similar to other FPS games on the DS - the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Brothers in Arms (DS): Is this the best war game on the DS? (1081 words)
by - written on 19/12/08 (Very useful, 323 readings)

Brothers in Arms is the typical concept of most war games whereby you play as, and control, a single soldier within a team of soldiers that are controlled by the computer. In this game you must complete different missions from getting through enemy lines to ploughing tanks through the frontline shooting Germans as you go and protecting your fellow team members. ****Graphics**** The visuals on this game are amazing and it is graphically the best game I have come across on the DS. The graphics are very realistic and being in 3D, with a constant frame rate adds to the gaming experience. The general background sometimes looks a bit blocky ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Brothers in Arms (450 words)

Brothers in arms is an absolutely fantastic game to play on the Nintendo DS and unlike the game Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix the graphics are amazingly good. I am a big fan of war games such as Medal of Honour, Call of Duty and Brothers in arms. Brothers in arms was the first war/shooter game i had purchased for my Nintendo DS and i was definately damn well impressed. The deaths look real, the explosions sound cool and it's fun when you get to drive a car and a tank. Up's - superb graphics : the Nintendo DS in my opinion has notoriously bad graphics when playing certain games such as Harry Potter. So when i inserted the game into my ...  Read the complete review
