After visiting a local market store recently I stumbled upon a new game for my Nintendo DS console which seemed on the box to be a great product.
This is a game where you have many mini games all rolled into one for you to enjoy and take part in. The game is called Casual Mania and the game consists of 4 games altogether.
The first game involves you trying to find missing items in some locations. You are given a brief story which hardly makes any sense and you need to find some missing items on a picture which is kind of jumbled up. The picture depends on which area you are using for the search and the items are very basic.
I would mention this game is very repetitive because if you visit the same room again later in the story usually you have to search for the same items as before which is bad because you already know where they are. This game has good hints if you want to use them and most items are easy to find which does help the player.
The second game is matching three shapes together. The idea is you swap a shape with another shape and aim to create a group of three. Once this group of three is together they disappear from the game and you continue until you reach the top of the metre bar next to the game grid.
This game is all about you using quick pace and working out where the next combination might be. The game does assist you throughout this process because if you struggle to find a new combination the game hints as to where one might be. This game is all about scoring a great score as no timer is ever present.
The third game is perhaps the worst of them all in terms of quality. You are running a hair salon and you have customers come in and you need to direct them to the chair and pick the right hair cut they require. As you are doing this more customers approach and take their seats and the game is about you keeping control.
You do have lots to choose from with hairstyles but you never see them on the characters afterwards. Everything is easy to do on this game and all straightforward but the problems will be explained later on.
The fourth game is where you have a ring of balls and they have various colours and you need to shoot some balls into the ring. You have to try and shoot the coloured ball into its matching colour to form a group of three. Once this is done they are removed from the circle and the circle shrinks in size.
You must try and eliminate all the balls before the balls reach the bottom of the chain and you lose. This game involves plenty of accuracy and speed because one slight mistake can cost the player quite easily.
The game as you can see are kind of basic but there is many problems with some games. The hair salon game is so poor in terms of speed that you will only serve three or four customers and stop the game. I found myself trying to move customers to the chair for their hair cut and they never moved and it was all too slow. I think this game was the worst for game play.
The graphics on the second game which was where you had to find various items hidden within a picture were just terrible. Throughout the game I was searching for items in what seemed to be pitch black. The game needed more colour and it needed better items to find. As a player you are always going to be looking for the same objects when you visit a scene again which is just frustrating.
The game play overall on most of the game is slower than average for Nintendo DS games and the graphics needs to be better because not one of the games has decent graphics.
There are options to play a challenge mode against other people which might benefit some people but I doubt many people will ever complete this game as boredom sets in quite quickly.
My opinion would be to rate this game overall as 5 out of 10. There are games there to play and a young child might not care too much about the graphics just as long as they are having fun. I would like to have seen a better variety of games and more challenges to complete with them.
