Advantages: Great mini-tutorials on chopping etc.

Disadvantages: Voice recognition not great.

I am a useless cook and can burn water. I even once gave my husband food poisoning from some undercooked chicken...whoops...so for christmas he bought me Cooking Guide for the DS and I was dubious. I attempted the Chilli con carne and couldn't believe the results. It was delicious.

The thing I like most about this game is the mini-tutorials on how to peel and chop etc. I managed to chop an onion into tiny diced squares and to julienne some carrots.

There are many recipes and you can search by country, time taken to cook, ingredients and others. You get a list of the exact ingredients need and what you can prepare upfront before cooking. It then guides you step by step through the process.

One thing I didn't really think worked well was the voice controls. You are supposed to say 'continue' and it should move on to the next step without you having to get your messy hands on the DS. I found that with the sounds of pots boiling and knifes scraping, the DS couldn't always pick up my voice.

Overall a great game for learning the basics of cooking without giving anyone food poisening!
