Advantages: Can get you back into enjoying cooking

Disadvantages: Interest fades fairly quickly, especially if you have limited food choices

Sometimes you just want something to spice up your kitchen love life. When my husband asks what do I think for dinner, I firstly, I suppress the urge to strangle and then ask what does he fancy as an ingredient. I then turn to the trusty cooking guide!

This little piece of software is quite a lot fun to play around with initially. There are choices (as mentioned before) to select recipes based on ingredients such as what is already contained within your kitchen, or if you prefer to browse through the recipes and select your favourites, the software can provide you a little shopping list. Very cute if you like shopping with your DS in hand! What is very nice are some mini videos showing you how to do those new things you may not have dared to try before. For example, you wash sushi rice at least 3 times before you cook!

Chefs voice controlled recipe reading is generally good, but there can sometimes be a few 'continues' at rapidly rising volume before you head onto the next stage!

The selection of recipes is quite good for 200 or so, but if you are a selective eater with intolerances or vegetarian, you may find your options greatly reduced.

Overall it is a quite interesting recipe book, though I found it collecting dust after a month or so. If it could update its recipe listing somehow, then it would have more versatility and long term use. As it stands, it loses utility very quickly once the gimmick wow factor fades.

Summary: A little GPS for your kitchen!
