Advantages: Many items to cook
Disadvantages: Graphics not the best and game play could be better at times
Playing games which involve plenty to do and that make completion extremely difficult are the best sort of games to play in my view because they offer you a way out of a boring day and you can try your best to complete them.
Cooking Mama was a game I got because it was very familiar to an application on the iPhone I played a while ago.
On this game your aim to prepare and cook food and score the highest number possible in points which is 100 and earn a gold medal. You get to decide what to cook from a wide range of items such as sandwiches or perhaps a nice curry would suit you the best.
You pick a dish and you have the option of practicing to make the product or you could go straight away into cooking an item instead. You can if you pick the practice option go around working out which bits you can make quickly and easiest. Some items need 6 preparations done before the item is finished, some require just 3.
You get told what to do on each stage so perhaps for some curry you might need to tender the meat and you do this quickly with a picture of the meat and you are smacking it in all directions. You have a green meter and when this is full it means you have succeeded in the mission. You also have a timer as well.
If the timer gets to the top again before you complete the task you are meant to be doing then it results in a lower score. You want to see Very Useful all the way through otherwise the game has won and you will not win the Gold Medal.
Obviously silver and bronze are options and when you cook a product you might see above them a little medal in a colour showing how well you done previously whilst trying to cook that particular item.
As you go through cooking an item you end up boiling products, filling up bowls with rice and water, making little items out of your cooking.
You do many more things as well such as stewing your meal or even cutting as well it all depends on your quickness and how good you are with concerntrating. I have found some challenges much more difficult to do then others which is going to be the same with many people not all of us find things easy to do.
When you do some meals you unlock new dishes and if you are cooking a curry perhaps you want a different type instead of pork and sometimes you get an option have way through the cooking process.
You can brush up on your skills in another feature on the game and not only that but you could mix items together like bolognese and perhaps a curry and see how it turns out but this is when you are confident and this is a bit of fun to do.
I like the idea behind the game because cooking is always a fun challenge for me and it is amazing I struggle on some parts of the game like I do in normal life and that is peeling potatoes. I cannot do them well in real life and suffer big time on the game when it comes to this task as well.
I think the game play is very good at times I have had moments where your left wondering why a movement you performed never registered so that can be very annoying but it happens so you need to expect it. You also have the timer which seems slow sometimes and then quickens up really fast and your again left confused.
The graphics are similar to cartoon pictures they appear to be pictures drawn by a child who has since uploaded them into a game because they feel like cheap sketches at times. I would not say the graphics are totally poor but in honesty they could be better.
One thing which did annoy me in the game is that if I have a meal which takes 7 preparations to do and I get one failure along the route I get the silver medal and yet with a 3 preparation meal I fail I still get silver so they do not work out the scores and medal evenly in my view.
It will take a while to do with over 20 dishes to do and more if you unlock the hidden ones and can be fun and for all ages but under around 8 people might understand some of the terms being mentioned.
Summary: Simple to understand with lots to do
