Advantages: Maybe ok initially for a bit of fun

Disadvantages: Repetetive, boring, doesn't improve your brain

Soon after purchasing my Nintendo DS, I decided to buy Brain Training since this had received some good reviews. Tired of the usual repetitive games, this game sounded new and appealing.

Brain Training promises to improve the functioning of your brain by practicing every day through a serious of various drills. These drills are numeracy, literacy and memory related. At the end of each session, depending on your rating Dr. Kawashima gives an indication of the age of your brain. The more you practice, supposedly your brain becomes younger.

Overall I found the drills quite repetitive and required too much effort. This game may be fine just for the odd bit off fun but it seems more like a gimmick to attract non gamers. If one wants to sharpen their brain I can think of many other far more interesting a challenging ways of doing this than playing Brain Training.

I think it works quite well, but only if you pit yourself against your previous scores, mum got if for christmas and we've been doing daily training for a week, I actually find I enjoy doing the sums, and thats a rare thing indeed. I dont think it raises intelligence, just heightens brain activity, in the same way a crossword or a sudoku puzzle does

I doubt it can do anything to lift intelligence myself...
