Advantages: Fun, perhaps improves brain, unlockables
Disadvantages: Repetitive
If you know about the Nintendo DS, chances are you've heard of "Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?" which is the game advertised on TV and that is making the DS popular for adults.
Firstly you take a test that determines your brain age. Then you try to improve your brain age by completing games and are graded for how long you take. You can unlock more games and options by playing. Some of the games include Syllable Count, Maths Calculations, Time Lapse (counting difference between two clocks) and so on. You can pick this game up pretty cheaply too.
Negatives? Well the game can get pretty repetitive and boring, and it wants you to play the game everyday but sometimes you don't feel like it. Another thing is that it hasn't been proven to be any actual benefit to the brain and some people report that their score doesn't improve with playing everyday. I will say that I have become quicker at doing those things such as maths calculations though.
Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? is a decent game which is designed more towards adults and isn't too expensive.
Summary: A decent game
