Advantages: Creates Some Good Sounds
Disadvantages: Can Not Save Your Progress
Electroplankton is a very strange games that combines music with a fresh but slightly strange concept. In this game you create sounds using other sounds and experiment with the noises you get.
In the performance mode, there are 10 different 'planktons', which each have a different stage which allows you to create your own sounds using the other little sounds already given.
01 Tracy
In this mode there are 6 different planktons, whereby you can by using your stylus click on each plankton and then choose a blank space for them to move. When they move they create a sound..moving in short distances and long distances give different sounds.
02 Hanenbow
In this mode you are given a leaf that one plankton shoots out of at any given time. In front of the plankton is a plant of six leaves which when landed on gives a different sound. In this game you can move the leaves according to what sound you want and with the different moving leaves on the plant you can make the 'plankton' bounce from one leaf to another to make some music. If your good enough you can get a good number of plankton playing at one time.
03 Luminaria
In this mini game, you have four plankton, which move by arrows. The whole screen is filled with organised arrows. You need to get different directions for the planktons to move and help make the music. Each arrow has its own sound, so as the planktons step on each one you make a different sound. Also the planktons all move in different speeds thus making a slightly varied sound even if you place them on the same route.
04 Sun Animalcule
In this musical game, you move the plankton to leave eggs which make a sound and omit sound. The distance in which you move the eggs has an impact on the sounds you will get.
05 Rec Rec
In rec rec, there are 4 fishes you move in conjuction with each other. In this one you use the microphone and record a sound into each plankton. Then you can play the sounds together to make some mystical music.
06 Nanocarp
In this game mode you also use the microphone, but you clap your hands to get the planktons to move in different ways. You can then use the stylus to click on the planktons to give off a sound. By clapping by the microphone and clicking on the planktons (on screen) you get some nice gentle sounds, which form and make music.
07 Lumiloop
In this game mode, you must slide your stylus around the planktons, which give you strange sounds and also a slight light shine to them. The planktons in this level are round each have a different colour. They spin, create light and give off a sound as you slide your stylus around them.
08 Marine Snow
In this mini game, you are given a screen full of planktons. You can move them and touch them in order to give a sound. The stranger your arrangements of plankton, the stranger and more diverse your sound will be. The planktons in this level look like snow, hence the title.
09 Beatnes
In this mode, the planktons look like flags. The background music is quite strange, as it is the music of the Mario games. In this mode, the sounds are also from Mario games, such as when you collect a mushroom or coins in mario. Rather strange. This is the only level, where I think it doesnt really make music but simply just sounds.
10 Volvoice
In this game mode, you again use the microphone, but this time you touch the plankton to fill its body with your voice. This mode is quite funny as you can say some words into the microphone and the plankton will repeat it but with different variations. There are 16 different shapes, so your voice can be changed in 16 different plankton type voices. Great fun.
Overall this game is quite fun, but I do find it difficult to want to play it. There are no set objectives and most annoyingly you can not save your sounds you make. If you could save your sounds, I would give this game a 5/5, but unfortunately this is a big part of the game that I feel would be benefitted if this was allowed. As there is no objective of the game, this makes it a very free game, but not being able to save also makes this game have no motivation to play it unless you are with a group of people. A good concept but would be nice if you could save your progress.
