Advantages: Portable. Cheaper than Home Versions. Good Fun. Music on the DS.
Disadvantages: Grip could have been better. Strings should take up more of the screen.
Guitar Hero is a massively succesful video game franchise. The game is simple. Play the guitar (& in later games drum & sing) along with a song on the console. However until this game, it was only available on the home based consoles where you would play with a big plastic guitar.
Guitar Hero On Tour takes you out of your home & allows you to play the game on the move. It does this by providing a grip peripheral that slots into the GBA slot in the bottom of your Nintendo DS or DS lite. IMPORTANT NOTE - DUE TO THIS IS DOES NOT WORK ON DSI!!!
The Grip has 4 fret buttons. You hold the ds like a book. Notes appear on the left hand screen with strings on the right. You play the game by holding down the correct fret button & strumming the strings on the right hand screen in time with the notes on the left hand screen.
It is fun to play. There are 25 songs, which in the main are by original artists. The tracks range in eras & there is something for everybody. However it will not replace the Home versions. This is because for an adult or male teen, the grip is very fiddly. The buttons are placed close together & because most adult hands have a good inch extra on all fingers except the little one it is a bit tricky. I find it easier to play with the strap not pulled tight. I will say this, most adults & male teens will get pain in their hands after playing for more than half an hour. Children & female teens will be a lot better. Also, somtimes you can miss the strings on the strum screen. They ought to cover more of the screen.
Mulitplayer options are available. Two people can play but they both need DS's, copies of the game & a grip each. No online option which would've been nice.
I would recommend it to people. It is fun to play & is the only version that you'll be able to take on holiday with you. It's just a shame that the grip hasn't got a slightly better design.
Summary: A good portable version. Great for kids. Shame about the grip
