Hotel for Dogs on the DS was released in the UK on the 13th Feb 2009.
I got this game for my 6 year old son who is easily influenced by all the adverts he had seen on TV and the dogs from the film being in the McDonalds happy meal.
The game is based on the new film 'Hotel for Dogs'. The film itself is quite funny and full of cute dog scenes, ideal for dog lovers. I assumed the game would well resemble the film, which it does to an extent.
In Hotel For Dogs, you help Bruce, Andi, and their friends transform a run down hotel into a home for stray dogs.
You work up through the levels, each level you have to meet certain objectives, eg. Build a gadget, make all dogs happy and rescue a stray.
To build the gadgets for the dogs; like feeding gadget and grooming gadget. You have to go in each room and try to find the parts needed on the list. Whilst doing this you also need to take care of the dogs needs, like sometimes they are sick, need feeding, need grooming.
You also have to rescue stray dogs to save them from the dog warden, which just means you have more dogs to look after.
The main game layout I think is very plain and nothing like the film, you cannot really see the dogs or characters as they are so tiny. It didn't really hold my son's attention like other games as he soon came to me telling me he was stuck! There are no cute/funny scenes like in the film.
After me taking over to help him it soon became confusing as it is so tiny you can hardly see where the gadgets are that you have built.
This game is not worth buying, it is aimed at children, but even then it is not going to entertain them for long. The graphics are poor and there is little reward for completing each level. There are far better animal related games out for the DS. I would not recommend this game, but the film is defiantly worth a watch (and the little happy meal dogs are cute too!)
