The there is around 30 playable characters. You pick you characters by filling up a 4x4 grid like a comic stip. Each character and support character takes up different amount of squares. And you just pick the ones you want and can fit on your little grid. You can have 4 main characters or chose to have 1 main character to use and lots of support characters. This greatly enhance the gameplay.

This is an amazing game, especially for the anime buffs out there. Probably the best fighting game on ds. The graphcs on this game are really good, stay focused to the anime style characters they are portraying. Now the gameplay is awesome, you have your story mode where you get to pick your characters and fight against either other people or complete tasks. There are loads of great characters over 100 probably however some of these are only suport characters. A lot of reading which makes it more difficult for younger children to play independently. very addictive, ds version adds more variety to the mix, unlockables levels are all basically the same look and feel, takes a while to get used to.
