This Lego Game for the DS involves as you can see from the front of the box, Characters from long past games, but now coming into Lego world and battling enemy's. The game is extremely funny, even more funnier as its in Lego version. There are six campaigns which I thought all were great, there are not as many on other games and versions. And also the multi-player I found it quite good as you can have up to 3 people battling and you can nearly chose every game play when doing download play.
This game really is challenging. Although its 7+ Pegi, it sure is very hard. Not only is this game to do with battles but also I have found out that it is also about using your brain, as there are some puzzles here and there which will need to be figured out to continue to battle on.
As I was talking about above about the six campaigns, there are the Medieval Knights, Skeleton Warriors, imperial navy, astronauts, pirates and last but not least the aliens, each which are very hard and challenging and different to each other. It sometimes can take very long to complete each one.
The missions given to you are not very long, quite straight forward. Even at a game over you get back to the same point very quickly which isn't at all bad. You basically need to destroy enemy's barracks and camps sites, also not only battling but rescuing teams mates that have been kidnapped from your team.
The graphics are not perfect but it is a DS we are talking about and the DS was not made for great graphics, it was made for pleasure and aimed at little kids and so little kids would not at all take any notice in graphics.
Overall its a great Lego game for the DS, although its not great as in easiness it still is a remarkable game to play. I give it 8/10.
When I initially brought this game I was expecting a crappy Lego Star Wars clone, but like hell I was wrong. This game is generally awesome. For those into the the strategy genre (Games like Age of Empires, Command and Conquer, Empire Earth, Civilisation) this is a must get.
This is a Cute Lego themed RTS (Real Time Strategy) where you wage war with mini Lego armies themed after pirates, kings and aliens. For me this was a dream come true as I loved doing Lego role-play stuff when I was a little kiddo!!
The controls are brilliant, has a simple yet intuitive menu system and plays like a charm. The game consists of a few modes, Story Mode is how you progress and unlock most of the features, a skirmish mode where you set up custom battles and Multi -payer where you can PWN(own, beat, be better than) a friend.
All in all the game is brilliant and Appeals to mass audience of Lego and RTS lovers. My only negativity is that the missions gets a little repetitive but hey the game is designed for kids.
This is not another run around and collect coins and stuff Lego game, this is totally different.
Lego Battles is in fact a strategy game for older children (7+) any younger will probably find it quite frustrating, 9yr old daughter is ticking along nicely on this game and not finding it too easy or too hard but 7yr old daughter is out of her depth.
I played this game myself and found the gameplay to be simple with click and select options to move characters etc. the basic premise is to build armies and the infrastructure needed to support them and explore and take over other villages and collect spells potions and various things that help you on your journey.
As for the lego connection it is quite lame and really all that identifies it as such are the characters who are small but obviously lego and all buildings are made out of lego, but as with so many DS titles the icons are so small that really it is pointless them being lego and at a glance they could be anything.
I would say try and forget the lego connection and enjoy a decent strategy based game that takes quite a bit of thought and concentration from children for them to enjoy it.
LEGO Battles features elements of three popular LEGO toy themes: LEGO Space, LEGO Castle, and LEGO Pirates, offering a new kind of build and battle LEGO gameplay. Through six distinct story lines, players build their own LEGO bases and battle teams as they engage in 90 different levels. Players can then mix and match units to create the ultimate customized LEGO squad. LEGO Battles is an action-packed adventure for young gamers where swordsmen clash with pirates and ninjas face off against alien spaceships with multiple opportunities for customization and un-lockable treasures. Players can also challenge friends on the battlefield in multiplayer mode through wireless DS multi-card play.
