Pokemon SoulSilver (DS)
Advantages: Good memories, good replayability
Disadvantages: Some people disapprove of it.
Right, first off, I'm going to brag a bit. I got to red (and beat him) in under 14 hours total gameplay. If anyone beats that or has beaten that, let me know and I'll send you my shoes.
So what is it about the pokemon ideology that attracts people in so much? There are countless spin-offs that basically print money (cards, films, t.v. shows, games etc....). But I'm only here to talk about this particular game.
Pokemon Silver Version was the very first Gameboy Advanced game that I bought, and it was by far and away, the best. Don't be put off it by the fact it's "frowned upon" by the norm, just because it's aimed at kids. If you remember how fun it was when you were young, you'll understand why I bought it, at my age xD.
The basic idea behind all pokemon games, is one of evolution, enhancement and completing the oddest survey in the world (the pokedex). You catch pokemon in the wild (NOT trainers, or they get quite cross) using pokeballs (which you can get upgraded versions of throughout the game). Once you have caught said pokemon, it is yours, you are told you love your pokemon by people, so that rules dressing them up as clowns and going on tour.
Once you've properly trained your pokemon, you have your shot at the pokemon Gyms, throughout the 2 regions you can roam (16 gyms in all, twice as much as any other generation!). When you have beaten all 8 gyms in Johto (the first region) you move onto the Pokemon League, who are quite frankly, hard as anything.
But whilst you are partaking in this quest to challenge the Elite 4, and then become the Champion (but they don't really let you become champion, and I don't understand why...), the dastardly Team Rocket are there to do evil deeds throughout the pokemon world, and you're that meddling kid that's going to stop them! It's honestly not that hard, quite boring if I'm honest, because you play a load of raticates and golbats and they're all really really stupid =[.
Overall, I think there are 250 pokemon (in the national pokedex) to catch, should you wish to fully complete the game, and it's no easy task, as you have to trade with people who own Heart Gold to get all the pokemon.
The touchscreen is utilized for the Pokethlon and battles, where you select your move using the bottom screen.
I recommend this game, you haven't experienced your Nintendo DS until you've played this game. You get a lot of replayability due to the fact you can go online against people or trade pokemon, and you can also play against the Elite 4 and champion as many times as you want. And at some point in the game, you unlock Battle Tower, which is a whole different thing entirely.
Summary: I bought it and loved it.
