A Dissappointingly Limited Game

Puzzler Collection (DS)
Advantages: Well Designed
Disadvantages: Only Four Puzzles!!
I read rave reviews all over the place about this game and couldn't wait to give it a try. I'm no puzzle addict but I do like the odd crossword or code breaker every now and again. This cost me £15 from Argos as part of a 2 for £30 deal, though I now see that several places have it for only £10 including Asda and Amazon (I was had there then).
I should have read this properly I admit, but when I bought it I just assumed that there was no way the game would only feature the four kinds of puzzles featured on the front cover. I assumed (wrongly) that it was just for illustration purposes, to give me an idea of the sorts of puzzles the game included. So imagine my surprise when I got stuck in and realised that no, it wasn't a selection depicted on the front cover - it was the entire menu.
The games that they've included are Sudoku, Crossword, Fitword and Wordsearch. The games have all been well designed so that they flow relatively smoothly, and the controls are very simple thanks to the drop and drag element that the DS stylus brings to the table. There are two quite major floors with two of the games though.
Firstly, in Sudoku you can basically cheat your way to the finish line. The number turns red if that number you enter into a box can't be correct. Where's the challenge in that?! The other glitch that annoyed me a bit was in Fitword. You have the word list on one side of the DS, and the grid to fit the words into on the other. Because only one screen on the DS is a touch screen, the two screens have to jump about between whichever one you're wanting to make a selection on at the time.
All there is to this game is basically easy, medium and hard tournaments featuring the same four puzzles over and over again. They get a bit bigger as you go up in the difficulty stakes, but that's the only variety you get here. I really am so dissapointed with this. This could have been so much more with just those few extra games! It's relatively well designed, it's easy to use and the puzzles they've got are decent fun. This badly needs a few more games on the menu though.
Summary: Not Recommended
