Advantages: its scrabble, if you like it you'll get some fun out of it, perfect for journeys

Disadvantages: crippling lack of replay value, crazy spikes in difficulty

Scrabble DS is a portable version of the popular board game. It plays exactly like the board game does with you placing tiles onto a board to make words. The interface is very intuitive, easy to use and pick up. The menu system is quite simple and uncluttered; you can get to virtually any part of the game in no more than a few seconds. The board is very clear and vibrant, it feels just like scrabble should.
However there are some bad points. Inexplicably, you can only have 2 profiles, which is not great if the whole family is playing the game.
For some bizzare reason, they have decided to omit a turn based multiplayer mode using the same cartridge. How much effort would it have taken to include such a mode? Not much I would reckon. Myself and my girlfriend wanted to play each other (we are quite sad) but as we only had 1 ds and game our thirst for single ds multiplayer scrabble went unquenched.
The 'career' mode is quite short, and there are ridiculous spikes in difficulty. The final tournament is barely even worth playing since it is impossible to win unless you are a robot.
There is obviously an inbuilt dictionary, however you don't get to consult it per se, it just notifies you when your word is invalid. The ability to consult the dictionary at will would make this game much better.
There is not much in the way of unlockables. There are minigames which are fun to play the first few times but quickly get boring, and the 'boards' that you unlock, which are actuallly just different color schemes for the same board.
Add to this the lame excuse for characters and lack of reasons to keep playing and you have one poorly executed game. It does what it says on the tin, it *is* scrabble on a ds, but it could have been so much more.

Summary: only for the enthusiasts
