Advantages: Great levels, better soundtrack than original, more depth than original

Disadvantages: Side games detract from pick up and go capability

Sonic Rush is a great game. Sonic Rush Adventure is a good game.

Unfortunately, the sequel to the fantastic Sonic Rush, trys to fill up more room and time with pointless conversations and exploration of islands. I'd normally approve a greater level of mini-games in most games, however with Sonic it's all about speeding through the fantastic, vibrant levels.

This game introduces an aspect of sailing across the seas, searching for the next location in which to defeat bosses and continue the (pointless) story. While adventure has proved successful in other games such as Zelda Phantom Hourglass, it's entirely unsuitable for a pick up and go platformer. There's far too much dialogue inbetween (which is incredibly painful to scroll through if you're any older than 3) and the sailing can seem irritating and repetitive when you just want to run through some great levels.

And that brings us to the positive. The levels are great, bosses perhaps better than the first. The game also has less of a "street" style than the first, although this is replaced with a pirate theme, so depends on what you fancy.

Sometimes simple is best. And if you're after accessibility, opt for the original Sonic Rush. If you like to fill more time with mini-games and story, then this might be the game for you.

Summary: A good Sonic game, but not as streamlined as it's predecessor
