Advantages: New Powerups And Abilities, New Bosses, As Fun Now As It Was Then.

Disadvantages: Short, Leaves You Expecting More, Poor Touch Screen Implentation.

Space Invaders. It's probably been released on every system in creation ever at some point, and it's not surprising why. It's a classic which people have been playing for years. Every time a new version is released something is tweaked or added to bring a new experience and people soak it up. If they didn't we wouldn't have so many versions released, but with that comes its downfall. When this was released on the DS there's only so much you can do without straying too far from the original idea. You're a spaceship that moves along the bottom of the screen and fires to destroy aliens that slowly creep towards you in a mostly predictable movement.

With this version our new addition is more powerups. New powerups are welcome but do they really warrant a brand new game? Well, that depends on how much of a fan you are. There's a bar at the side of the screen that increases as you play and destroy aliens, and as this bar increases so does the power of your powerups. It's a simple concept, and it does have uses other than giving you more power. You can use this bar to call in aid for yourself or perform special moves (such as clearing a whole line of aliens, or speeding up your ship). It is new, but it's not exciting. By the time you've reached enough power to actually do something cool, you'll nearly have beaten the level.

That's pretty much the conclusion to this game. It's fun, but it's short. They've thrown in a few new modes and bosses with varying strategy to defeat them, but once you've tried and beaten them what's left? It's not much of a pick up and play game if you beat it on your first or second time which leaves you feeling like you've been cheated out of the money you handed over for it.

If you're a Space Invaders fan and own a DS, I'd only recommend picking this game up if you can get it for cheap. It certainly feels like a cheap thrill.

Summary: Buy It Only If You Can Get It For Cheap.
