Advantages: Very Unique. Make your own team. Multiplayer on one console. Fun gameplay
Disadvantages: Basic Graphics & Sounds. No download or online multiplayer. No club teams.
I remember playing Subbuteo when I was a Kid. My cousin had the game, although because nobody new the rules, it always ended in chaos!
I bought the video game because Gamestation were selling new copies for £2.98 (that isn't a typo). I don't own a football game for DS so I thought I'd give it a go.
The game is an interesting game to play. It is completely based on the board game. You have eleven pawns (the name for the pieces). You have to flick the players so that they hit the ball. Slowly flicking different players up the pitch with the ball until you can shoot & try to score a goal. You are not allowed to use the same pawn more than 3 times in a row & you must make contact with the ball or you lose possesion & the other team take over. Also, if your pawn hits an opposing pawn, before the ball, this counts as a foul & you lose possesion.
You flick players using the stylus. You don't flick the stlyus though. There is a picture of a finger. You move the finger back & sideways with the stylus & then press a buttong to flick the finger. The more you pull back, the harder the flick. Sounds a bit dodgy, but works quite well. Flicking the pawns direct with the sylus might have been better though.
Game options include a league & cup option. Plus you can create your own team by writing in a name & selecting from any of the default colour schemes for your home & away kit. Quite good, although all the teams on here are internationals. Multiplayer options include Hotseat for 2 players on one console or multi card wifi play. No online. No Single Card Download.
Graphics are a little basic. Dots on a screen represent players. Sounds are also very basic. Simple tunes. Whistles crowd noise. All pretty unspectacular but functional enough.
The game is good fun. It is totally different to any football game I've played & I wasn't expecting that. It can be tricky at first, but once you get used to it, you will give the computer a run for it's money. It can even be relaxing because of it's turn based nature. Multiplayer is even better. I would recommend it. But don't pay a lot of money for it.
Summary: An interesting & different little game. Worth buying at the right price.
