Advantages: Intersting story, impressive graphics, simple gameplay welcomes newcomers to the genre

Disadvantages: Bad voice acting, maybe too simple for some,

Suikoden Tierkreis is a mixed bag. It's a traditional turn-based rpg with a good story, impressive 3D graphics, and a lot of things to do. Sounds good so far...

OK, I'm just going to say it. This game has atrocious voice acting. Admittedly it is refreshing to see an Nintendo DS game with voice acting but the voices in this game are rushed so much. It's like if the Pokemon games had voice acting and the voice actors were trying to keep up with the text on the fast setting.

Anyway, if you can stomach the voice work you'll see a traditional turn based rpg here. Again it's like pokemon, just in 3D and with more characters. You would think that would sound amazing but the combat system in this game is a strong reminder why most games don't have it turn based anymore. It's too simple. There's even a auto button so your characters attacks automatically. You'll be using this button a lot. That said, if you still like the simplicity of this kind of rpg you won't find a better one on the DS.

I like to think this game as a one for mature 9-13 year olds. It has the simplicity of Pokemon but delivers a surprisingly good story that will keep you interested throughout. The cut-scenes are also very refreshing to watch, especially since this is the DS. They're in anime style but it remains mainstream and accessible for anyone to watch. The voice acting isn't as bad during these scenes too. It's when there's text boxes is when it really bugs me.

If you're into classic rpg's on the NES and such, this game is a must-buy. Those wanting more of an updated adventure would be better off getting The World Ends With You or even Final Fantasy IV.

Summary: Care for a bit of NES style rpg's, this game will be right down your street
