Advantages: Addictive, tetris at its best
Disadvantages: Push mode very boring...
The classic arcade game is back and now on Nintendo ds. I have always been a tetris fan as i find that it's a challenging game and highly addictive. This was the first game that i brought when i got my ds and it did not disappoint.
The aim of the game is to try and position the falling shapes to build straight lines. Once you get a straight line, it disappears and you get points. The more lines you build the quicker the falling blocks come. However if your unable to build straight lines and the falling blocks keep coming then eventually you will be at the top of the game board and the game will end. This for me is what makes it highly addictive as you want to keep beating your previous score.
As well as the standard tetris game, Nintendo have filled this game with 5 other modes which are:
Push - in this mode you play the CPU and you have to clear lines to push the CPU down. You control the top screen whereas the opponent controls the touch screen. You have to try and control the falling shapes so you build straight lines and push your opponent down to win. I didn't like this game at all as i found it very boring and fustrating. If your quite competitive, then i think you would enjoy it.
Puzzle - You have a selection of 200 puzzles to play with this mode. Once you've selected a puzzle you want to solve, you will be given only a few shapes (which will be displayed on the touch screen) to complete it with. I found this really good and i got so determined to complete them. You can be playing it for hours though as i kept saying ill just do one more and before you know it id been on there for hours.
Mission - You get given random missions which you have to complete before you run out of hearts. Once you've completed it you move on to another mission and so on. The mission is displayed on the top screen on a scroll. With this mode you have the option to do a marathon of missions or do a time trial. The first few missions i found quite easy but they become harder with the more you complete.
Touch - this is where the shaped blocks are already stacked up on the game board and you have to try and slide them into a straight line using your stylus. The game is on both screens but you are only able to move the shape blocks on the lower screen. It is a lot more difficult but again very addictive. I liked this mode as it's designed for you to use your stylus and i found it very addictive.
Catch - you have to move and rotate a core which is at the bottom of the screen and try and fuse it together using the falling shapes to create a 4x4 set of blocks. You have to try not to run out of energy or let your blocks stack over otherwise you lose the game. I liked this game but it was quite tricky. Wasn't my favourite out of the different modes.
With this game you can also play with multiplayer. The three different modes are standard, mission and push. You can either invite other players to play with you using wireless or you can download and play.
Overall i think this game is very good but i would of liked it even it it just had the standard mode as that's tetris at it's best, the other modes are just a bonus. The only mode i didn't like at all was push as i found it very tedious .
Summary: Very addictive game, if your into your puzzle games, then this is the one for you.
